I happened to be videotaping Izza and Arlo, when Izza launched this impromptu dramatic performance, pretending she was a lost unicorn in the forest. My favorite moments are when she breaks character briefly to direct the action. Watch for her reminder to me that she is a unicorn, not a mere sister. This video is further evidence for my theory that being Isadora's dad is like living in a surrealist play.

Arlo Roars

Arlo's been a little touchy lately about pretending. If he decides pretending time is over, it's over RIGHT NOW. And he doesn't like being told to be something other than Arlo. The other day, I asked him to say, "I'm sorry," to Izza, and he said, "I'm not sorry. I'M ARLO!!!"

In this video, captured at dinnertime, Arlo roars like a dragon so ferociously that he winds up scaring himself. He then demands that pretend time cease immediately.
